FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ):

How long is a float session?

Our float sessions are 75 minutes in length, as we want you to have optimal time to reap all the benefits in reaching the theta brain wave state. Theta brainwaves occur most often in sleep but are also dominant in deep meditation. Theta is our gateway to learning, memory, and intuition. In theta, our senses are withdrawn from the external world and focused on signals originating from within. This is a state in which optimal healing occurs. Floating for 75 minutes will also help you relax and reduce stress.

What do I need to bring?

You just need to bring yourself for the float. We supply towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, and earplugs. If you wear contacts, you should bring your contact case or another pair so you can remove them while you float. We would advise bringing a hairbrush, deodorant or anything else you may need for after your float and shower.

What do I wear?

We strongly recommend you float nude after you've showered in our private float room. Floating nude will prevent external stimuli (aka your swimsuit) from rubbing on your skin and causing distraction. The part of your swimsuit not in the water will also become more cold and stiff from the high concentration of salt. Another reason we request you float nude is for the cleanliness of the float tank; wearing a swimsuit or clothing into the water can bring in contaminates from detergents, fibers of the swimsuit, chlorine residue from other pools, etc.

Is the water clean?

Yes! There are multiple levels of cleaning and disinfection occurring in the float cabin to maintain hygiene of the water. First, the very high salt content of the water prevents bacteria and other microorganisms from surviving. Second, our float cabin has a state-of -the-art filtration system which uses a replaceable 10 micron filter bag, capable of filtering debris in the water as small as 1/4 the diameter of a human hair. As water is pumped through the filter, is also goes through a UV light array, taking care of any microorganisms that survives the extreme salt content of the water. The water is pumped through this filter 3x between each float! This makes the float tank much cleaner than any hot tub or swimming pool. Lastly, we also use hydrogen peroxide and ozone (one of nature’s basic elements) in our float cabin to further purify the water.

What if I’m claustrophobic?

We decided on the larger float cabin style (versus the pod style) to help ease people’s concerns about claustrophobia. The cabin is large with a 7’ high ceiling; it's nearly 6’ wide, allowing you to fully stretch out and have plenty of room to move around and stand up. That being said, your float is about you being comfortable, and you are always in control of your environment. So, if you need to have the in-tank lighting on, you can. You can also ask to have music on during the float, or leave the door open (although you will most likely want it closed for more warmth). When floating, you have an entire room to yourself and can get out of the tank as often as you wish. Being in the float cabin is more like floating in space than being in a small room, and even people with severe claustrophobia have reported having no problems during their time in a float cabin.

What if I fall asleep in the float cabin?

No problem! Many people do become so relaxed that they drift into a peaceful sleep. It is like a "“power nap” that leaves you completely refreshed and energized. The salt water is so buoyant, you will stay afloat.

Do I have to stay in the whole 75 minutes?

No. You are free to get in and out whenever you like during your 75-minute float session; this is YOUR time and you can use it as you wish. When you first begin floating, 75 minutes may seem like it's a long time, but most people report that the time goes much faster than you would expect. We chose 75 minute sessions to allow for optimal healing and relaxation.

Some people divide their float time into two parts with another shower or stretch in the water. There’s no right way, only YOUR way. We do provide every floater with a robe in case you need to use the restroom or grab something to drink from the float lounge. We have water and complimentary tea, which you are welcome to stay and enjoy after your float too.

Will my skin get wrinkly from soaking in the water so long?

No, the opposite! Your skin will be super-hydrated as the water carries in the magnesium from Epsom salts to keep your hands and fingers nice and smooth. The high concentration of Epsom salt in the float tank disrupts the normal process of osmosis which encourages the protein in the top layer of our skin, keratin, to absorb water and make us pruny.

Can I float when I’m pregnant?

Yes! Pregnant women love floating as it helps to relieve the weight of the baby on the mother’s body. If you have any concerns or are a high risk pregnancy, please consult with your physician before floating.

Can I float if I am menstruating?

Yes. Just follow the same protocol as you would for a swimming pool.

Can I float if I just got a tattoo?

No. We recommend waiting 4-6 weeks to allow your tattoo to heal, as the salt water could be a bit painful (salt water in an open wound!) It can also cause fading and discoloration of tattoos.

Can I float if I just dyed my hair?

No. We recommend waiting 1-2 weeks, as the salt water may fade or discolor newly dyed hair.

Can I drink caffeine before floating?

We recommend avoiding caffeine before a float because it could overstimulate your mind as you float.

Can I eat before floating?

We recommend eating a few hours prior to your float. Floating on an empty or full stomach may be distracting.

Can I float is I have an abrasion or minor cut?

Yes. We provide vaseline to cover your abrasion or cut. This helps prevent irritation from the Epsom Salt.

Can I shave before floating?

We recommend avoiding shaving for at least 12 hours before a float. Epsom salt can irritate any micro-abrasions from shaving.
